Asdem are very pleased to again offer this two-day seminar which will be presented by Phil Stalley, an acknowledged expert on all aspects of oil demurrage, and Tony Yates, previously Head of Operations at BP Oil International in London.
The objective of this seminar is to give those staff involved in the European Barge business the information they require to perform their roles in the cost-effective and efficient manner that oil trading now demands.
Asdem's past European Oil Barge Conferences, Workshops and Seminars showed that there were still far too many disputes, often for relatively small amounts of money. The main cause was the wide range of the terms and procedures, starting from the different contract terms and the initial nomination through to the calculation of the final demurrage claim. This seminar will consider and interpret the barge terms that are currently used by the industry. This Seminar has not been held since the Asdem Barge Working Group published The ASDEM VOY 1 BARGE CHARTERPARTY in January this year and this form together with other charterparties will be covered in the Section "Transportation Agreements" highlighting the significant differences to the TTB rules together with the more contentious areas that prevail in this industry.
This seminar is aimed at the working requirements of operations staff, demurrage analysts and anyone who handles barge operations, claims and disputes. Disputes often involve barge operators, traders and lawyers who will all benefit from participating in this seminar.
The seminar will be restricted to the European oil barge trade. The full range of topics to be covered is listed below. The course documentation has been written as a useful guide for future reference.
Phil Stalley, HubSe Ltd (Demurrage Software) and Consultant to the oil and shipping industry. Until 2008 Phil was the manager of BPOI's Demurrage Team in London handling the negotiation and settlement of oil trading and charter party demurrage claims in support of BP's European trading activities. His responsibilities included freight, deviation and ancillary expenses incurred under charter parties. Phil spent 37 years with BP in a variety of posts covering operational and commercial aspects of the tanker business. Phil was a major contributor to the drafting of BPVOY4 and the laytime and demurrage provisions of BP's trading terms. He is a regular speaker at training seminars and industry conferences.
Tony Yates, Consultant to the Oil Industry. Tony holds a Master Mariners Class 1 Certificate of Competency and sailed on tankers for 13 years. He subsequently worked as a marine technical surveyor in the U.S., before joining an International inspection company where he served as Regional Manager for the U.S. Eastern Seaboard for several years. He returned to the UK in order to take up a position with BP's Cargo Assurance (Loss Control) team. Over recent years Tony held a number of managerial roles and retired as Head of Operations for BP Oil International Ltd in March 2014.
